22 Year Old
Beaten by Police
In St. Louis County in January, 2015, Joseph Swink was brutally beaten by police after they mistook him for a suspect (Anton Simmons) in a car chase. A police chase was going on when Joseph tried to pull to the side when the police crashed and totaled his car. There was smoke everywhere in his car and since he didn’t know what to do he got out of his car and ran, the police caught up to him and started to beat him.
The police have since apologized to Swink for their actions and said that their mistake had “zero to do about race.” Swink disagreed and said “There was nobody black on the scene, just a lot of white cops. I didn’t feel safe around them,” he said. St. Ann Police apologized to Swink after they admitted to causing severe injuries to his face after accusing him of a crime he didn’t commit on Thursday.
The police are saying that it was an accident but they did not even check if he was the suspect they just started chasing him then they totaled his car, and they ran after him without seeing his face, and after they knew they did wrong they just said sorry and left him with severe injury and a totaled car.
