A Girl like Her: Movie Review
By: Miricle Blackman
A Girl like Her is a PG-13 drama that was released last March. This film is based around the effects of bullying. The movie doesn’t only show the effects on the bullied but the bully as well.
The film shows the both point of views of both girls: Jessica Burns, an average girl who has been bullied and harassed by her ex-best friend, and Avery Keller the most popular girl in the sophomore class; she spends her time harassing, offending and bullying Jessica. We the viewers see their lives through camera lenses. Brian the recent best friend of Jessica suggests she wear a spy camera to film the bullying encounters with Avery who bullies her. Avery is filmed in a documentary the school is participating in.
The film received 65% from Rotten Tomato and 92% from viewers. Reviewers from Hollywood Reporters explained the film as “an indie drama that takes the found- footage approach to portray a teen’s eye view of bullying “. Viewers said “A Girl like Her unfolds with clear-eared approach the subject”
I really enjoyed the film, after waiting for months to see it which was definitely worth the wait. I loved the way they accessed the topic. This film shows what true forgiveness is. I think this because Avery learns from her mistakes of bullying and came to terms with how wrong bullying Jesssica was. Immediately after watching the film I thought how well of an impact this film would have on teens like students at North. The movie can be found streaming on sites like iTunes or bought in DVD. This is definitely something I would recommend!
