BERNIE KOSAR FOR GENERAL MANAGER?
By: Mollee Ryan
The legend, Bernie Kosar.
In case you didn’t know, Bernie Kosar was a spectacular rookie quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in the 80’s. And by spectacular, I mean spectacular. He wasn’t the most mobile quarterback but he was smart and accurate. High accurate, extremely smart. He even pushed the Browns’ record to 8-8 to sneak them into the playoffs in 1985. He knew how to get the ball to where it needed to go. Again, bad luck for the Browns their head coach at the time, Bill Belichick, released Kosar after a 29-14 loss to Denver. Belichick claims that Kosar had “diminishing skills”.
And that was when the Browns started to go downhill.
After the Browns decided to waive running back Robert Turbin on November 10, fans started the campaign “Kosar for General Manager”. Kosar most likely influenced the start of the campaign without even knowing it. He just wanted to help his former team. Owner Jimmy Haslam might want to take a look at some of the things Kosar told the media.
“I want to do this, OK?...I’m not blaming the effort from the players. I’m not blaming the effort from the coaches. This is from the beginning, and I feel like a broken record, this is not lobbying to pick on people. But this a cultural, systematic issue.” Bernie Kosar tells WOIO Cleveland 19 News. Kosar practically said the new-era Browns were pathetic.
Who knows, maybe Jimmy Haslam should take a hint.
