Boy's Golf
Joshua Boughton
This year the boy’s golf team
had finished the season with a 7-9 overall win and losses with a good 4th
place tie. The team’s season PAC tournament they finished in 5th
place. Combining both records the boy’s golf team landed in 5th
place for the year. “It wasn’t bad considering since the team was dead last
year” said coach Kozlevcar. The team’s seven wins this year was a 6 win
improvement from last year and Coach Kozlevcar envisions the team’s score being
lower and the record being better next year.
Coach Kozlevcar bases this off his returning golfers but both Corey Ackley and Cody Cantrell will be missed next year not only since they display great scores but they display great leadership and sportsmanship both on and off the course.
Throughout the year Varsity team Joe Hemmert, and Ryan Frank who are both juniors have made great scoring contributions along with the seniors Corey Ackley, and Cory Cantrell. We also can’t forget about the sophomores Matt Miklos, and Vince Severini. While Cory Ackley was the MVP this year the most improved from last year was Vince Severini.
The teams most memorable match was their one stroke win against Chardon at home 174-175. Leading this charge was Joe Hemmert with a score of 40 along with Ryan Frank who scored a 42. The Boy’s golf team’s other memorable moment was against Geneva at their home course which was also the team’s last match of the season and the last match for the seniors.
Both seniors had shot the best for north leading them to a double tie breaker victory and when they had compared the 5th score from both teams the two teams had a score of 48.
The team’s only choice was to go to the last scores and Ryan Frank had carded a score of 56 but was two strokes below Geneva’s 58, so North’s golf team had won the match. “Going to the sixth score between two teams had only happened twice in my 13 years of coaching boy’s golf and I am fortunate enough to be 2 and 0 in these tie-breaker situations” said Coach Kozlevcar.
Coach Kozlevcar also doesn’t want to leave out another senior Will Kingzett which he didn’t play Varsity all year but he made significant contributions when called into action. Will had also won against lakeside with a 42 that day.
