Breast Cancer Awareness Month
By: Madeline Patrick
The month of October is breast cancer
awareness month. Our school honors this by having a pink out in the student section, the football team
wears pink socks, and the cheerleaders wear pink bows.
1 in 8 women in the US will get breast cancer in their lifetime while 1 in 1,000 men will. Cancer is scary and often deadly. Breast cancer is one of the most lethal cancers in women besides lung cancer. There is no cure for cancer, but there are treatments such as radiation and chemotherapy. There is a higher survival rate for those who catch their cancer early. Women should get yearly mammograms, especially if they have a history of breast cancer in their family.
You can raise awareness of breast cancer by wearing a pink ribbon, pink breast cancer bracelet, or adding a bumper sticker to your car. You can also donate to the American Cancer Society. Click the button above and you will be taken to the website.
