Browns vs. Steelers: Who’s About To Win?
By: Mollee Ryan and Paige Willohite
On November 15, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cleveland Browns 9-30. Sadly, for the Browns they were annihilated by “backup” quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as their “starter” Landry Jones left the game with an ankle injury early in the first half. Despite Ben’s recovering injuries, he played a monstrous game for the Steelers. He threw 22 out of 33 passes for 379 yards, including 3 touchdowns. On the other hand, backup Johnny Manziel was 33 for 45 for 372 and a touchdown. So here’s the question: Who will win the next time the Browns and the Steelers play?
Paige: In the 2000s and 2010, the Steelers won 27 games against the Browns, while the Browns only won 5. The Steeler’s players play to win, not just because it their job. The Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, threw 379 yards even with an injury. That’s just one of the Steelers strongest players. We also have our wide receivers, Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant. Ben made a 56 yard pass to Antonio in the second half and Martavis made a touchdown of 178 yards. The Steelers not only have great players on the team but they also have a great coach behind them. The Steeler’s coach, Mike Tomlin was awarded coach of the year in 2008. Tomlin has led the Steelers to 82 victories. Unlike the Browns who switch coaches almost every year, Tomlin has been the Steelers coach for 8 years (2007-present). So, with the Steelers defense and the browns lack of skills it’s safe to say the Steelers have more of a chance at winning their next game with the Browns.
Mollee: The Browns may be a horribly coached, injured, and inexperienced team, but they also have their good sides. Let’s not forget that back in the 1980’s the Browns were nicknamed the “Kardiac Kids”. Guess what the Browns record was as the Kardiac Kids? 11-5. Of course, there’s no way the Browns will be in playoff range this year, but sometimes the underdogs take the win. For example, the Philadelphia Eagles (5-7) defeated the New England Patriots (10-2) on December 6. Philadelphia was in no position to take the Patriots out that easy, there was no possible way it should’ve even happened. But that’s the way football works sometimes. Another example includes Michigan State vs. Michigan in the beginning of football season. With Michigan State at No. 3 right now, Michigan should’ve never hung with them but they did, and almost beat them on top of it. The Browns beat the Steelers last year and the Steelers had a better record last year than they do now. All I’m saying is give the Browns a chance.
Well, we’ll see who’s the best at First Energy Stadium on January 3rd. Be there.
