The Browns are 2-9, it’s a lost season, and there’s nothing you can do but laugh. It’s honestly hilarious to see how Cleveland is coming up with ways to lose. It’s almost like they are making it too hard to win. Maybe they are overthinking it, or it’s the bad play-calling, could be both, but either way fans are devastated. Especially after that absurd loss to the Baltimore Ravens on November 30.
Listen to this.
This isn’t just a Browns way to lose, it’s the most Cleveland way in the history of Cleveland to lose.
About halfway through the fourth quarter, Josh McCown leaves the game with a collarbone injury. Former Rams quarterback Austin Davis enters the game as second string (hilarious right?) and tries to push the Browns past the Ravens. Just as all of the fans started to leave the stadium, Davis launches a bomb to Travis Benjamin for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to tie the game 24-24. There was maybe about 2:00 minutes left at this point. After Travis Coons nails the extra point, the Browns punt to the Ravens. Then, the unthinkable happens. On the next play, Matt Schuab threw his second interception of the night and Cleveland got the ball back. All they needed was a field goal to win the game.
Now, hang in there because this is where Cleveland decides to get Cleveland.
Austin Davis throws for a few more yards until there is about 9 seconds left on the clock. They call a timeout and for some odd reason, the Browns decide to set up Travis Coons’ game winning field goal with a run up the middle. The run gains maybe about a yard, and with three seconds left they take the field goal. Mind you, it was 51 long yards with the wind 8 miles per hour blowing against Coons. The win wasn’t going to come easy. Coons’ sets up for the goal and with a missed offside call on the Ravens, kicks it way too low to go in. Baltimore ended up blocking the kick and running for a touchdown winning the game 30-24.
Let’s just say, 1964 is probably the last time the browns will ever win a championship. Ever.
