North High is getting proactive about bullying. All students and faculty members watched a video during school on Thursday, October 8th, 2015. The video was actually a live broadcast that featured the motivational speaker Nick Vujicuc. He has a program called Life Without Limbs. During the hour long broadcast he confronted topics that really hit home for a lot of people such as bullying, suicide, and depression.
Searchlight correspondents, Helaina Ganim and Adam South, went out and interviewed a few staff members to get their opinions and thoughts on the impact of the broadcast. Mr. Lyons said he has noticed a decrease in bullying complaints. Several teachers such as Mr. Brettrager, Mrs. Kirschnick, and Mr. Lyons have said that it is very inspirational and applicable to most students. Mrs. Stauton and Ms. McGrady said that they enjoyed it but they felt it was a bit long and un-relatable because people at North can’t really relate to some one that doesn’t have limbs. All around Adam and I enjoyed the video. I think it opened people’s eyes and I have noticed a difference in character in some situations.
