California Drought
By: Madeline Patrick
The drought in California has been a problem since 2012. The dry land in California has helped fuel wildfires. The drought is creating many other problems and has caused many Californians to go without water for days. This means no showering, no washing hands, and only drinking bottled water. This is hazardous to health and the people of California need our help.
The wildfires blazing across California have destroyed forests. California has an annual wildfire season that lasts from May to October but this year is expected to be the most damaging yet. Californians have had to evacuate their homes. The dry ground caused by the drought has made it easier for these destructive wildfires to spread.
There are many farms in California. Almonds are one of the major crops of the state. 67% of almond farmers rely on groundwater for their almonds which is very scarce due to the drought. These farmers will not have any crops to sell which means a lack of almonds and a huge money loss. The drought is causing 17,000 jobs and $2 billion to be lost in the state of California.
People and are not the only ones being hurt by this massive drought. The San Joaquin River is the most endangered river in the United States. Spots of the river are dried up. Fish are going to die and the animals that eat the fish could die as well.
Plants, animals, and people are being effected by this serious drought. California needs our help. You can help by clicking the button above and donating to the website.
