Chris justice sets new school record
By: Alex Golden
IT’S A NEW RECORD! Chris Justice set the school record for longest field goal for North. He kicked a 45 yard field goal, breaking the previous record of 43 yards. On top of that, it was the winning field goal and his first game playing at the high school level. Quite a feat!
“I felt really happy. I was proud but over whelmed” says Chris about his field goal. Ever since the field goal, he says it has been amazing. The down side is people are expecting more from him, but he doesn’t let it get to his head.
Chris came to the team because Coach Dodd asked Coach Critter if he knew anyone for the spot. Critter has previously coached Chris at soccer and new he had a good kick so he asked him.
He stopped playing football originally because soccer took over and he enjoyed it more. He loves football but loves soccer more because it is his passion. He says that he gets more respect on the football team because he is new. But on the soccer team everyone knows him and they have played together for years and he is closer with them. “The padding didn’t feel that much different it just got in the way. I treated it the same way as I do with my shin guards and cleats.”
If Chris misses a game winning field goals, he thinks he could have done better and is disappointed. But if it is an extra point, he shakes it off and tries to forget about it. Although he only got recognition for player of the week, it still felt amazing. “I can’t take all the credit, have to give all the love to the team. Everyone did their parts, I just kicked it through.”
It is a little difficult balancing everything but he makes it work. He looks forward to the new season.
