On September 12, the Eastlake North boys cross country team traveled to Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School for one of the largest and muddiest meet they would ever encounter. It rained the entire day, and with Division I varsity races coming after middle school races, the course was torn to shreds.
Brecksville-Broadview Heights has a very hilly, beautiful course. It is set right next to the high school curving back through the woods and behind the football stadium. The start and finish line is set next to the elementary school.
“Saturday’s meet kind of sucked, because it was just down pouring rain.” North’s Dominic Rayl says of the meet.
As North transferred from the PAC (Premier Athletic Conference) to the WRC (Western Reserve Conference) this year, they are one of the smallest teams. The Western Reserve Conference consists of eight teams: Eastlake North, Willoughby South, Brush, Mayfield, Madison, Riverside, Chardon, and Kenston. Because of their size, they may struggle a bit. At least, that’s what senior Nick Watson thinks.
“We’re a pretty small team comparing to everyone else, so it’s a little bit harder for us to place.” He says.
But size is all hype, right?
