A designer baby is a baby whose genetic makeup has been selected in order to eradicate a particular defect, or to ensure that a particular gene is present. This procedure can be done by parents to make-up their perfect baby. This procedure is very controversial and only done in some European countries. Through research I found cons to the process that I agree with.
The technology is used superficially. This give parents a way to choose I child with brown hair and green eyes. It takes away the natural process of childbirth.
Due to the technology being so new scientist are unsure whether genetically modifying the babies will affect the gene pool. This could cause difficulties later on throughout the baby’s family tree.
The baby is also unable to give consent so many believe it is not right because the parents do not own the fetus. The question of ‘what happens if the baby isn’t how the parents want it?’ is in the air. Would the parents send the child back to become an orphan? Do they kill the baby? There are so many questions to many for this procedure okay to do.
