EARTHQUAKE IN AFGHANISTAN
By: Madeline Patrick
On Monday, October 26, 2015, a massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck the Middle East. The epicenter was located in Jurm, Afghanistan but the earthquake was felt in the neighboring countries and even the subcontinent of India.
This natural disaster has caused at least 339 deaths and over 2,000 injuries, but more are expected to be found in the rural areas being blocked off by the landslides. As aftershocks continue, schools are closed and hospitals are filling up.
However, the epicenter of the earthquake was 130 miles under the Earth. This lessened the magnitude, but the casualties are just as tragic.
