EASTLAKE NORTH RISES ABOVE
By: Mollee Ryan
The Eastlake North Rangers jumped to a spectacular win on August 28, the first football game of the season. Eastlake North hasn’t won a season opener since 2011; the city of Eastlake was brought to life.
The Demons took a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, and fans were believing that they would go through the same old same old. Last year during the season opener, Eastlake lost to Kirtland 49-14 and that hurt. With all of the new coaches, at least someone was expecting something miraculous to happen.
Well that’s just what they got. Zane Bunnell threw a touchdown pass of his own bringing the Rangers to 14-7. By halftime, the score was 28-21, Eastlake was only one touchdown from tying the game.
“It was crazy, we’ve been working hard all summer and it just paid off, especially with that kick at the end.” Quarterback Zane Bunnell says.
Crazy it was as the Rangers won the game by a 45 yard field goal kick with three seconds left. Kicker Chris Justice had the whole game sitting on his shoulders and he knew he couldn’t screw up. Chris says that the special teams coach, who has known him for years, convinced him to come out and play and he’s not upset that he did.
"I think we should do good, we got high hopes. Just gotta take it week by week." Senior safety Jim DiFrancesco says.
The Rangers take on 0-1 Normandy September 4th, and surely this will be the battle of orange and black.
