Maybe this just isn’t the year.
Well, judging on these past losses, it definitely isn’t the year.
On January 5th, the Madison Blue Streaks stomped on the Rangers with a whopping 70-36. 70-36. That’s a 34 point deficit. Whether it was all of the talent on Madison’s team or nobody from North showed up to play, it was a brutal game. And getting blown out by a conference team is not fun, especially at a different school than your own, it’s painful. It’s definitely been a rough patch in the season so far, seeing as North has only won two games out of the 21-game season so far.
“Better luck next year guys, it’s just not our year.” Everyone always says year after year after year. That simple, monotonous, five-word phrase, over and over again every season.
You see, unless you live in Eastlake or you go to North not many people are huge fans, Sadly, North has always been, and still is, labeled as a unsportsmanlike, rough and gruff school with no class. A school that can’t succeed in sports for their lives. But what if the athletes are sick of hearing that? Sick of hearing “better luck next year” when the fans don’t even know in their own hearts that everything might be the same. If there is anyone else in that school who wants to succeed this year, it’s this 2015-2016 basketball team. They want to win, you can see it on their faces. It’s heartbreaking to watch them be torn to shreds by “outsiders” from different schools and even the referees that call the game. Some of the coaches have even given up on this program. With North’s reputation at the moment, these boys don’t only want to win, they need to win. And it’s so despairing that they aren’t able right now.
But why? What could possibly be the problem?
“Evalutation on offense… maybe.” Sophomore Brandon Barron thinks.
Sure, North does need to clean up some offensive blips such as game speed, passing, working the paint, and communication but the problem may be lying under all of that. Eastlake needs believers, with heart. They need an overwhelming revival to wash the area of the doubts of their school and the kids. Throw away the old, broken records and add a little bit of heart. All I’m saying is people need to forget this old reputation and start something new. Sometimes, all you need to win a game is a little bit of talent and a lot of heart. But first, someone with heart needs to speak that into you. I don’t understand why our minds are clouded with these doubtful thoughts about North. Even the coaches need our help, they strive to do their best and speak into them. But let’s take that responsibility upon ourselves to help them. Someone speak into these boys, it’s all they need right now.
