THE ISSUE OF ALL ISSUES
By: Jessicsa Jodlowski & Paige Willhoite
One thing everyone can agree on is the condition of North High School. It is said it would cost more to renovate the school than to tear it down and rebuild a whole new school. Making renovations to the current building would simply be placing a Band-Aid over a Band-Aid.
On November 4, voters agreed and passed Issue 5, which means new construction will be starting soon for a brand new high school for North students. School will still be in session as these new buildings are built; there will be a completely new land plot for these campuses. Kids who are freshmen this year are expected to be seniors in the new school.
So what are we going to use all this money for? New and updated buildings with better technology to fit today’s kids. The buildings all need some work. Some need a lot and others just need basic renovation. Both North and Longfellow will be torn down and be rebuilt. A new South high school will be built and the old high school will become Willoughby middle school. Every other school in the district will just be updated with new technology and equipment like computers, smart boards, etc.
The issue will raise taxes by $11.64 a month and construction will start in the summer of 2016 and end in the summer of 2019. The Willoughby Eastlake school district needed this now more than ever; change is good especially when it comes to helping kids today. New enhancements to our school can and will bring a greater advantage to the whole community.
