ISSUE 6 SAFE FOR 5 MORE YEARS
BY: SAMM SENIK
On Tuesday, November 5th, Issue 6, a renewal levy, was voted on and passed.
Issue 6, or the Operating Levy, is the levy that pays for daily expenses, which includes books, technology, transportation, special education, utilities, etc. Although the levy does a lot for the schools in the district, many people were against it being renewed, saying it would increase taxes. This is incorrect as the levy is a renewal. Tax payers will continue to pay the same amount as they have for the past year.
The people against the levy also didn't seem to realize what the levy not passing would do, such as cut sports, music, arts, and the courses offered at schools, as well as property values, teachers, and money for transportation. This would decrease the quality of education that students receive, and the overall quality of the district.
Fortunately, we do not have to worry about any of that for at least 5 years, which is how long this levy will be in effect due to the passing by 64. 76% (10,682 to 5,814).
Our "A" rating, transportation, course offerings, sports, art, band, and more are now preserved and our district will continue to advance, helping bright minds to advance and succeed.
