Comedy Central has
some truly great show. From sketch comedy shows like “Key and Peele” to
political news parodies like “The Colbert Report”, It seems like the channel
has a show for everyone. However, one show I never really hear anyone talk
about is “@Midnight”. It’s a show that airs at midnight (obviously), with a new
episode premiering every Monday through Thursday, and is almost like “Jeopardy” mixed
with “Tosh.O”, and it’s really funny. It has a lot of great comedians on the
show and entertains out of nowhere.
The show, hosted by stand-up comedian Chris Hardwick, is basically like a game show where there is no prize, and points don’t really matter or actually make sense. Every show features three stand-up or improv comedians competing for points. The points are determined by Hardwick, who gives contestants points for funny or correct answers to questions or whatever is presented. After five rounds, the two comedians with the most points move on to the final round. The winner is determined by who gets the most laughs for their final response, with the winner receiving nothing.
One thing that is absolutely great about this show is how random it is. Hardwick almost always gives points out no matter what the joke is, and sometimes will give more points than usual for no reason. Almost all of the rounds have weird topics that are very imaginative and funny. Some of the rounds featured on the show include Name that Vine, where contestants come up with a name for a Vine, Iron Sheik: Real or Jabroni, where contestants guess whether former wrestler Iron Sheik likes or dislikes something, and (my personal favorite) JuggalOKCupid, where contestants have to guess whether or not an OK Cupid profile for a Juggalo (a fan of the “rap group” (you can’t tell, but I air-quoted “rap group” when I typed that) Insane Clown Posse) is real.
The guest comedians are also great, with almost every single one hitting their mark. Similar to “The Burn with Jeff Ross” (which I’m still waiting for the third season of, where is it Comedy Central?), the show brings in new comedians every episode, so you can see a bunch of different styles of comedy. Some that appear on the show are well known comedians like Doug Benson and Weird Al Yankovic, but there are also some you may have never heard of, like Ron Funchess and Hannibal Buress. It’s a great way to learn about new comedians and you could find one you really like.
Basically, this is a great show that is definitely worth watching. I know it’s on at a really inconvenient time, but it’s so worth the loss of sleep. It’s funny, creative, and the best part is if you really enjoy it and can’t wait for the next episode, there’s probably a new one on tomorrow. All I can really say is that if you decide to check out this show, then you deserve some POINTS! (watch the show, you’ll get it)
