Welcoming Mr. Shields
By: Mollee Ryan
Sometimes, the position of a
teacher could be pretty stressful. You never know if you will get a good, bad,
or disrespectful student. For Mr. Shields that’s not an issue. As an additional
special education teacher at Eastlake North High School, he loves his job. He
did not always want to be a teacher though. As a young kid he says he wanted to
be a fireman because he would get to fight fires and save people who needed
him. It was a role of much responsibility.
Mr. Shields attended Mentor High School as he grew up in Mentor. He played soccer and when he graduated, he coached soccer for nine years and basketball for three years. He was a coach at both Lake Catholic and Perry High School. Looking for a new job, he applied for one within the area and Eastlake North snatched him right up. He hopes to stay here for a while longer.
Our new staff member thinks that his students are very nice and respectful.
“So far so good.” He said, with a smile.
The only thing that he doesn’t like about North is the fact that there is no air conditioning. With temperatures soaring above 80 degrees some days, this place is definitely an oven. Yet, he loves the support and encouragement from all of the staff and administration here. Even though it’s a job he loves, it’s mentally and physically tiring. Welcome to our staff Mr. Shields!
