Marching band is not considered a sport to most people, but to the people who are
dedicated and work hard at it, it is the most important sport of all. This year, our North High marching band is made up of 60 people. Each of these people play a key role in the making of the band. There are many different instruments including but not limited to trumpet, flute, bass drum, and more, There is also a color guard and a baton duo.
The entire band is made up into sections, and each section has a section leader. The section leaders are essentially the managers of their section. They help make sure everyone is ready to perform and make each show run smoothly.

Marching band is very time consuming for everyone involved. They start practicing in June, and as of July we have been practicing every day for two or three hours, with the exception of weekends. If that’s not enough to convince you, they also have band camp for one week in August, practicing for 9 long hours with only a 45 minute lunch break, if lucky.
In practices they learn all their songs and something called “sets”. Each song has a list of sets that are different for each band member. The sets tell them the exact coordinates on where to go. The coordinates all together make a formation into a picture of some sort. Past formations have been a plane, a star, a big “N” and etc. Having to memorize these going set to set multiple times.

This year we have 11 different songs to learn, which are organized into 5 different shows. Our festival show, which is our most performed, consists of three songs: Black Magic Women, Smooth, and Oye Como Va, All by Santana. Besides our half time shows we also have pregame at the beginning of every home game. Pregame consists of: The Fight Song, On Wisconsin, God Bless America, Alma Mater, and The National Anthem.
Finally, We would just like to thank all the people who put time into our band. Especially The Band Director, Tim Neiderkorn, the band moms, and anyone else who helps them to the best of their ability.
I hope you will stop by and check out all of the hard work the Marching Rangers have put into this year at any of the football games.
