Another Painful WEekend

North just will not catch a break this basketball season, will they?
The Mayfield Wildcats topped the Rangers 75-57 on January 22. Travis Picquet scored the most points for North with 24, followed by Brandon Robinson with 13. The Rangers fell to 4-8 that night, ranking 7th out of the 8 teams in the Western Reserve Conference. It was a tough game for North most certainly, but getting blown away by 18 points on a regular basis is a bit ridiculous. And not just ridiculous, but too much for these poor, loyal fans to take. As much as everyone wants this lost season to become something, it looks as if it is a just a bad year for basketball.
“I feel like sometimes we get too ahead of ourselves and we take these games too lightly… We didn’t really play with our full potential.” Back-up point guard Jake Tanski says.
Although Mayfield may be a good and solid basketball team, North needs to work out it’s issues. What is causing the miscommunication and errors in the offense? Or is the defense the problem? With how big power forwards Chris Province and Chase Axelrod they should definitely try to get them in the paint for a nice layup. Another thing that North has and never had is a nice jump shot, by Chris Province. Really, all they need to do is play good defense and set more picks. Maybe the accuracy of shots need work too, but some of the main problems are simple fixes. The boys just need to learn to play more like a team, is all.
But the fact that North has some blips isn’t the only thing holding North to a 4-8 record. The teams that North is playing are very challenging such as Kenston, Madison, and Brush. The Rangers certainly do not have any easy games to lay back and count on a win. Chasing around fast, and strong teams is a very tiring task, which sadly they have been doing a lot lately. The loss against Mayfield resulted in their 3rd away loss of the season.
But the season is coming to end, 10 games to go.
