For the twelfth year in a row, Willoughby South defeated North High School. It was a sad time for the Rangers, the city of Eastlake had high hopes for their football team, but they just couldn’t take them. Nobody knew exactly what happened.
“We just weren’t ready to play them, I think we beat ourselves that time.” Senior Kenny Uzarevic says.
North gave up more than three possessions, due to fumbles, in the first quarter. The game was definitely painful to watch. Of course, playing on the baseball field at Classic Park probably didn’t help anything. Although they tried to transform the baseball field to a football field, there is no way to cover up the dirt, which was dry and rocky. Also, because of the length of the field, the officials had to turn the game around each time the teams came too close to the wall, which stopped a lot of momentum.
“We could have easily stayed in the game, we blew it in the first half.” Tyler Dodd says when asked about the game.
The Rangers still have a chance in the playoffs, hopefully for the first time in school history. But they would have to win the rest of their games, striving for a record of 6-4. Eastlake will definitely have to step up their game.
And hopefully they can make up for these past three weeks against the Kenston Bombers on October 9th.
