Soccer: playing strong and continuing to fight
By: Alex Golden
The girls soccer teams are striking into the season this year! In contrast to last season, there are 3 teams for girls soccer this year: Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Reserves (formerly known as Junior Varsity B.) Due to the formation of three teams no cuts were necessary this year. The Varsity team is really looking good this year with Jessica Martini as the top scoring striker, and Caitlin Stuart holding down the defense. The Lady Rangers are really kicking into this year with lots of good results of all levels. “The coach is very motivating and I’m glad to have such a compassionate and caring leader for the team. I’m excited to finish the season,” says senior Selena Chandler. Their current varsity record is 6-4 despite having an injury filled season.
On the flip side of things boys’ soccer teams have had a rocky start to the season but are working hard to improve & results are definitely showing. With the ending of last season they lost nearly most of the varsity squad, but many new faces have filled in valiantly. Although with the rough start to the season North is 5-3-2 and 3rd in our conference as of right now. With such a young squad on the pitch, North only has seven seniors. With a strong offensive force, and “golden boot,” a.k.a. Chris Justice taking deadly free kicks along with a strong, solid midfield presence with Ivan Miljak and Donovan Summers, the future for this young North Boys’ Soccer squad looks bright.
