As 2015 comes to a close, December is rolling around again. We all know what that means: the holidays are just around the corner! I realize that not everyone may celebrate Christmas, but that doesn’t mean that these people don’t celebrate at all. After all, everyone loves the holidays! (Unless you’re a Scrooge of course)
There are many holiday activities and traditions celebrated by people all around the country. If you’re looking for some new holiday activities to try with your family and friends this holiday season, here is a list of activities that I’ve been doing over the years with my family:

1. Drive around and look at Christmas lights
You can simply just drive around your neighborhood and look at the lights that your neighbors have put up, or you can go see the light shows at Lake Metroparks Farmpark or visit Nela Park, a drive-thru holiday light display in East Cleveland. And why not join in on the fun? You can even put up your own lights too!

2. Bake Christmas cookies

3. Watch seasonal movies
There are so many great holiday movies! I prefer the classics, such as: The Grinch, A Christmas Carol, and Elf.

4. Visit the Christmas Story House
Cleveland is home to one of the most famous houses ever known! A Christmas Storys’s very own, original house.

5. Play in the snow or go sled riding
This is just simply a fun winter activity for everybody to enjoy!

6. Make “Reindeer food” and sprinkle it all of your front lawn
Ever since I was little, my sisters, my mom and I always made our own fun concoction, which we called Reindeer food, and every Christmas Eve we sprinkled the food on the law to attract Santa’s reindeer. This simply just consists of dry, unmade oatmeal and A LOT of glitter.

7. Go Christmas caroling
As Buddy the Elf once said, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”

8. Drink Hot Chocolate
There’s nothing better than a nice cup of hot coco on a cold day!

9. Do arts & crafts
It may sound a bit childish, but there really are so many different choices of crafts to make for the holidays.

10. Go shopping!
Even though not everyone enjoys spending money around the holidays, shopping is one of the biggest holiday traditions of all. Whether you enjoy shopping, or not, everyone has to do it.

As I get older, I’ve begun to realize that in the end, giving is truly better than receiving. Although it is nice to get presents on Christmas morning as well, being around the people that you love rises above it all. After all, that’s what the holidays are all about!
