And just like that, it’s all over.
For the last time in the regular season, the Eastlake North Rangers, almost hang on but couldn’t quite stay, falling to the Euclid Panthers 79-62. This was definiately a rough game for North, seeing as they had to play a fast-paced Mayfield team the night before, it had to be hard. Judging by some of the looks on the players faces, maybe they are happy this inconsistent and frustrating season is over. Most people are disappointed for the end of basketball season, but sadly, the Ranger fans might be a little relieved. With the harboring losses this year, there’s no doubt these fans must be exhausted. But there’s no doubt these boys played their hearts out. They need credit, they worked hard, it just didn’t turn out the way they expected it to. But it’ll all turn out, it’s a new season: Tournament season.
So where will North go from here? I’ve said it repetitively but this team has a chance to go somewhere this year. I’ve seen their efforts and I’ve seen them play like a team, it’s definitely possible. They will just need to work out the kinks. The Rangers will play the Brush Arcs in the sectional final round on February 24 and having played Brush twice it’s bound to be a good game. In a way, Eastlake has an upper-hand. Most teams don’t get the chance to play the team that they are playing in the tournament twice during the season, this is their chance. And our job as fans is to stand with them, no matter what, being supportive fans. Even through the mental exhaustion from this season, North needs fans with some spirit at these tournament games. Let’s go Rangers!
Hopefully tournament season will light a fire for North and the city of Eastlake.
