Veterans Day is a holiday about honoring veterans that are alive and or dead that have served in the U.S. armed forces. It is a federal holiday that happens November 11th every year. Since, this holiday is federal most workers and students have this day off.
Veterans Day became an actual holiday in 1954 but it started after fighting in World War I was actually ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. In 1945, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks from Birmingham, Alabama, had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just the Veterans who died in World War I. Eventually this led the first national celebration of Veterans Day in 1947 in Alabama and annually until his death in 1985. Armistice Day and Remembrance Day is the same thing being that they both honor the dead and still alive Veterans but Armistice Day and Remembrance Day are celebrated in different parts of the world. Although originally scheduled for celebration on November 11 of every year, starting in 1971 in accordance with the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, Veterans Day was moved to the fourth Monday of October. In 1978, it was moved back to its original celebration on November 11.
