Every year we hear Christmas music play on the radio, starting way before it’s even near the holiday season. Students that take advantage of the instrumental music programs at North start hearing it in September. To get everyone into the holiday spirit, the members of the Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, and Jazz Band are performed a winter concert on December 8th, in the NHS gym.
Symphonic Band performed an interesting selection of songs. “Ancient Echoes” and “Brahms Finale” are two of the four songs. The songs they performed for the holiday season are “Christmas Time with Charlie Brown” and “Christmas Pops Medley” which features songs like “Jingle Bells”, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer”, etc.
Jazz Band, which has only been practicing for a few weeks, played three songs for the performance. The jazz selections they prepared for the concert are “It’s Never Over ‘Til The Fat Lady Swings” and “Jingle Bell Rock”. Stepping away from the jazz music for a bit, they performed the Christmas song “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”.
The last band to play the concert is the Wind Symphony, playing five songs for the performance. They will played “Queen City March”, “Prospect”, and “Spirit of the Winds”. For their holiday songs though, they performed “Christmas Around the World” and “Sleigh Ride”.
If you didn’t get to see the bands perform, plan to attend the next concert, where they will be playing another diverse collection of music.
